It All Comes Back To One

12 Jul 2006 in Podcast by Garrick

A year ago, I wrote about how podcasting’s underlying technology biases really, really small audiences. Audiences of 1.

This morning, listening to the latest Evil Genius Chronicles, Dave asked how small the audience size has to be before I (you/we) stop.

Turns out, my number is 1.

Good to know.

For me, the 1 doesn’t even need to be someone else. The major reason I’m doing my show is an excuse to have interesting conversations with interesting people. These conversations wouldn’t happen if I just asked if I could call them up and talk to them for 2 hours. When it’s a podcast interview instead, these conversations that otherwise would never happen, happen.

Beyond that, I get to go back and revisit anything from those conversations I want.

Only after that does another person even need to be listening.

I have the conversations because I enjoy them.
I record them because I want to save those conversations.
I publish them because someone else might enjoy them as much as I did.

Only number 3 even requires an audience.
